Osprey Networks - A popular political uprising against an established regime regarded as oppressive by use of massive non cooperation and defiance. a nonviolent insurrection against tyranny!

Osprey was founded in 2004 by Rev. Eli Sanford & SLASHER and after several other radio station failures, we got the formula right and Osprey was born and now everything came together and built a community of friends. Today osprey has several channels on the radio and even a television station. [edit] Osprey IRC History

Well im going to try & educate you on IRC how it got started how we got started & so on so bear with me cause its a long strange trip & feel free to jump around if I bore you to much

The Beginning of IRC

IRC was born during summer 1988 when Jarkko "WiZ" Oikarinen wrote the first IRC client and server at the University of Oulu, Finland (where he was working at the Department of Information Processing Science).

Jarkko intended to extend the BBS software he administrated at tolsun.oulu.fi, to allow news the usenet style, real time discussions and similar BBS features. The first part he implemented was the chat part, which he did with borrowed parts written by his friends Jyrki Kuoppala and Jukka Pihl. It was initially tested on a single machine, and according to the words from Jarkko himself "The birthday of IRC was in August 1988". The first IRC server was named tolsun.oulu.fi.

Jarkko got some friends at the Helsinki and Tampere Universities to start running IRC servers when his number of users increased. Other universities soon followed. Markku Järvinen helped improving the client. At this time Jarkko realized that the rest of the BBS features probably wouldn't fit in his program!

Jarkko got in touch with guys at the University of Denver and Oregon State University. They had got an IRC network running (they had got the program from one of Jarkko's friends, Vijay Subramaniam—the first non-Finnish person to use IRC) and wanted to connect to the Finnish network. IRC then grew larger and got used on the entire Finnish national network - Funet - and then connected to Nordunet, the Scandinavian branch of the Internet. In November 1988, IRC had spread across the Internet.

BBSNET

BBSNET History Due to legal reasons I can no longer display this here but here is my notes on the matter

(notes: ok oddnet was started around December 2001 by me & some others listed below not 2002)

(notes on the oper insident: all i said was why couldn't he just tell us? instead of hacking oper? thats all i was mad about gezz although it is nice to me immortalized in there history i must have made a lasting impresstion on someone)

ODDNET

"Quoted from www.oddnet.net"

What's Odd About... I presume this should be some sort of 'why we exist' blotch of text. We can also make this into a history of sorts as well! Yay for us, we're saving the environment by not wasting valuable binary space. Let's take a moment, and parse a little bit of history information. We can then move onto the other important facts. Remember, take notes. There will be a test.

Everyone does it, so should you!

So here we are, many years from when we initiated our first connection to the now infamous port 6667. Several billion lines of text later, we're still latching onto this parallel world known as IRC—often spending more of our lives in these dark virtual-rooms than we do in other parts of our houses or apartments. Regardless of if you've been around since the beginning of IRC, or if you just happen to be a passer-by reading a boring website, chances are you've at least dawned the darkness of some chatroom at one point or another.

Set Apart!

It's often hard to distinguish a noticeable difference between a brand-new never before seen IRC network, and one which is a split-off of another network. Most large networks are spin-offs of each other, with various twists. So, for now, let's go ahead and set the record straight... OddNet is not a spin-off. There, all set! [edit] Inception, Birth, Naming and Growth

With the closing of the summer in 2001, a few friends in a different network had finally decided on creating their own network for fun. They'd been talking about it for months, but hadn't actually circumvented their laziness until then. Starting a network is easy, compared to naming it. Hours went by with nobody coming up with a suitable name, until somebody walked into the conversation and blurted out the phrase "why not OddNet, freaks!?". With those simple subtle words, came the amazing network name we hold true to today. We've grown to include several servers (though we only really need one), and an average of about 40 users.

( OK now back to reality )

I Founded Oddnet (Rev. Eli Sanford)along with my friends Swinn & Gomamon (he has to many akas to list)we created a network with swinn as hub cause gomamon & myself were on dialup at the time we had a working net for about a month before GameMaster even joined! yes he did name the network but failed to mention that he did not create Oddnet! there history was probably edited after my departure from oddnet which I will get into later

Oddnet was founded in 2001 although it didn't go by that name at the time it was called Slothnet cause 2 of the servers were on dialup it made since then we setup Swinn as hub & started getting users in 2001 GameMaster wanted to join we said fine we had been in the prossess of thinking of new names when GameMaster entered the convo & said his quoted line

so enuff about oddnet on to better things

Osprey IRC - A New Beginning

Well after several years of running oddnet the leadership of the network become a democratic system which would have worked if the opers were not bias & haveing a majority in one group of friends.

So in 2004 I started being threatened with removal from oddnet by meare opers b/c of my not agreeing with GM & DEV's Dictatorship over Oddnet they wanted to set some rules in my channel that I didn't agree with & when I denied they created a new channel #chat & asked all the users over to it so they could dictate them more officantly I joined #chat & my script auto oped me I was threatened with squit if I joined or chatted in DEV's channel again i brought this up to GM & he sided with DEV after several other agruments over basic rights to admin my own channel that was registered to me!

I started Osprey IRC named after Osprey Networks my internet radio station, Osprey is a monarchy as this system has worked well for me on my bbs message network ACnet

I had been asked by many others (Slasher, Tuneman, Tus & Time Warrior) who like me didn't like the dictatorship that was going on in oddnet to start another network so in the grand scheme of things I did so but always hoping that there would be someway to repair the damage done to oddnet but i soon realized that I wasn't welcome in oddnet as they removed my server & delinked me cause I wasn't idle in the channel? even tho I was in contact with GM on a regular basis ah well I got pissed & told them all to kiss my (well you know) & here we are lol

I have no real regreats other than wishing I would have saw it coming sooner but I was busy with my dad being sick & real life

but Osprey IRC is my new beginning a chance for me to start fresh & do things as I should have from the beginning with oddnet & even back to bbsnet although i was not an admin there I did make some enemies & this time around I'm hoping things go a bit smoother

Now your probably wondering why I posted all this? I mean a lot of it doesn't put me in the best of lights but I believe to know where your going you have to know where you have been so i posted the history as best I could piece it together

Thank You Rev. Eli Sanford

Updates 9/06/2005 - 1yr old

sorry i haven't updated in a while so bare with me as i try to remember the last year of osprey IRC history =-)~

ok well time warrior is gone he was causing problems & was removed as a server then he kept causing problems & was removed as a user this caused some issues with 2600 who were joining us at the time (hopeful still will someday)

he thought he would get them to take us out i was not about to let him or anyone else take down osprey & luckly our friend admin99 steped up for us & were still here. -- so thanks admin99

guess im the only one to ever stand up to 2600 & live to tell about it cause god knows they could have killed us right then & there

after that tuneman got mad cause we kicked tw & other issues & he left also calling me a Nazi dictator ( im a monarch darn it!) then took his server down but me & T have since made up & from time to time he still pops in to say hi or rant about what's going on =-)~

Well i finally saw the need to buy an ircd so i got a hosted shell for irc.ospreynet.info which is a 300 user IRC server with services also so things are much more stable now

V hrm well i could do an ode to Venom & i don't think it would be enuff after all this & some before V really steped up & took charge & without him i would have probably walked away more than once lol so id just like to say thanks man i really appreciate it!

slasher my noble sidekick, tonto to my lone ranger he's still running his server & doing his proboard thing he had some trouble with his router/cable but he's finally stable thankfully Linux gave him problems but he's got the Osprey eggdrop running again on windrop so its all good

well parsirc has join the osprey family bringing 3 servers & some interesting people most of them from Iran so brush up on your farsi lol there nice people & i hope every gets along. in the first days of the link we were all a bit tense but now that were mello'ed out its a bit more natural we just had to get use to each other i guess

thought out the year new people have came to join us & sadly others have left some on good terms some on bad but all we can do is keep trying & keep fighting the good fight you know never giving up never quiting

Osprey Forever (or as long as there's a tomorrow)

well thats about it the year in the life of osprey IRC if i missed anything please feel free to email me so i can update it
