IRCd is the original and first IRC daemon developed by Jarkko Oikarinen.[2] It is still in use on [1].[3] When RFC 1459 was written, the only IRC server was IRCd.[4] IRCd is, due to the RFCs being written by its developers, one of the servers implementing all of the RFCs and not just RFC 1459, whereas other IRC daemons often went for their own extensions and didn't fully implement the following RFCs (or not at all).[Source?]
